HIM 2020 theme

WATCHMEN

A call to be a people who are vigilant amongst our generation, preparing for our Saviour’s return and proclaiming the good news to the nations.

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day and night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

Isaiah 62:6-7

WHY 'WATCHMEN'?

We have based the theme of HIM 2020 on a theme strongly emphasized in Isaiah 52, 56, 62, Jeremiah 31 and carried on through the New Testament, namely, Christians’ dual and synchronous role of watching for our Saviour’s return, and calling others to join in the worship and praise of our God. This is encompassed in the act of a ‘Watchman’.

In Isaiah 52 verses 7-9, the watchmen ‘see the return of the LORD to Zion’ and ‘together they sing for joy’, and simultaneously call the people to ‘break forth together into singing’ because ‘all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God’.

In Isaiah 62 verses 6-7, the watchmen are unceasing in crying out to the LORD. They are never silent as they ‘put the LORD in remembrance’ ‘until He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth’. Christian watchmen not only call upon others to worship God but also call out to God, ‘Let your kingdom come!’.

King Jesus has come to save the world from her bondage to sin, and now the church are watchmen in our call to ‘stay dressed for action and keep our lamps burning’ (Luke 12:35) in anticipation for the return of the King as we ‘go and make disciples of all nations’ (Matt. 28:19) under the universal authority of King Jesus.

We hope that through our theme of ‘Watchmen’, HIM 2020 Conference will serve as a platform where Christians will explore both the attitude and the work of a Christian missionary as we serve through our healthcare means.
